Travel Itinerary
Day 01: Manali to Kaza via Atal Tunnel and Kunzum Pass
- Tour starts at early morning from Manali to Kaza. You drive via Atal Tunnel and Kunzum Pass.
- This high-octane journey from Manali to Kaza is a cinematic transition from the lush, pine-covered slopes of the Kullu Valley to the stark, lunar landscapes of the Trans-Himalayas. After a swift transit through the engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel, the paved roads give way to the raw, rugged trails of the Lahaul Valley and the legendary water crossings of Chhatru and Batal. The adventure peaks at the mighty Kunzum Pass (14,931 ft), where you’ll pay respects at the hilltop temple before descending into the vast, sun-drenched plains of Spiti. It is a thrilling, 10-hour odyssey of off-roading, glacial views and soaring altitudes that serves as the ultimate gateway to the “Middle Land".
- Overnight stay at the hotel in Kaza.
Day 02: Kaza to Mudh Village (Pin Valley) to Tabo
- This segment of the package explores the spiritual and natural diversity of Lower Spiti. We depart Kaza for a scenic detour into Pin Valley, visiting Mudh Village, a trekking gateway surrounded by marble-like peaks and icy rivers.
- The drive to Mudh Village is a cinematic experience, where the mountains change colors from deep purples to burnt oranges, contrasting with the lush green pea fields of the valley. Known as the land of the "Snow Leopard and Ibex," Mudh offers a raw, end-of-the-world beauty. After soaking in the Pin Valley’s serenity, the trail leads you to Tabo, home to the "Ajanta of the Himalayas."
- The Tabo Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to 996 CE, houses ancient murals and stucco statues that offer a profound glimpse into the spiritual history of the region, making this segment a perfect blend of natural wilderness and deep-rooted Tibetan heritage.
- Overnight stay at the hotel/homestays in Tabo.
Day 03: Tabo to Dhankar to Hikkim, Komic and Langza Village
- Prepare to ascend into the clouds as we travel from the ancient quiet of Tabo to the gravity-defying Dhankar Monastery.
- Dhankar Monastery, perched precariously on a cliff edge overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers. The adventure reaches its peak at the "Highest Villages in the World" circuit. Stand at the Hikkim Post Office to send a postcard from the highest mailbox on Earth, visit the golden Buddha at Langza while hunting for prehistoric fossils, and experience the spiritual height of Komic, the world's highest village connected by a motorable road. This is a day of surreal landscapes and dizzying altitudes that will leave you breathless in more ways than one.
- Return back to Kaza. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kaza.
Day 04: Kaza to Key Monastery, Kibber Village and Proceeds to Chandratal Lake
- After breakfast drive towards the Key Monastery.
- The final leg of the Spiti adventure takes you from Kaza to the valley’s most iconic landmarks before heading back toward the wilderness of Lahaul. The journey begins with a visit to the Key Monastery, a magnificent 11th-century Tibetan fortress-style gompa that cascades down a conical hill, serving as the largest religious center in Spiti. From there, you ascend to Kibber Village, once the highest motorable village in the world, known for its traditional white-washed stone houses and the nearby Chicham Bridge, a staggering suspension bridge spanning a 1,000-foot deep gorge. The journey then takes a dramatic turn as you leave the inhabited valley behind, crossing back over the high Kunzum Pass to reach the ethereal Chandratal Lake. Known as the "Moon Lake" for its crescent shape, its crystal-clear turquoise waters reflect the surrounding peaks, offering a serene, high-altitude camping experience under a blanket of stars that perfectly concludes the Spiti circuit.
